We have serious office envy of these guys at Instrument. They’re a digital creative agency based in Portland, Oregon, who create bold, digital brand experiences and have the best office e-v-e-r.

They believe it’s a very important to be surrounded by an inspiring environment in order to keep ideas fresh. Instrument’s workspace is set in a giant retrofitted warehouse with an abundance of space and light. Within the office walls a sense of community is encouraged, dogs are allowed, and there’s even an insulated teepee for meetings!

Street Feast London is well and truly back in action after their launch on 12th April. They have now taken over the old Travis Perkins builders merchants on Kingsland Road, (just around the corner from our office) and will be running every Friday night through April, May and June.

The Merchant Yard features a specialist indoor cocktail bar, an outdoor main bar and lounge, and a raised dining terrace overlooking the yard. Not to mention the gathering of food traders in the yard itself.

That’s our Friday night plans sorted for the next few months!

marathon

This weekend will see approximately 30,000 people running through the streets of London as part of the 2013 Virgin London Marathon. This year our Director, Jon Dodd will be donning his trainers once again and taking part in 26.2 mile (42.2km) run.

Jon is aiming to raise £2000 for the YMCA.  50% will go to the National YMCA to help them continue the great work they do and the remaining 50% will go to Reigate & Redhill YMCA.

If you would like to sponsor Jon and support this great cause or  read more about his progress, you can visit his JustGiving page here:

Since its first graphic poster commission in 1908, London Underground has developed a worldwide reputation for commissioning outstanding poster designs, becoming a pioneering patron of poster art – a legacy that continues today. The new blockbuster exhibition Poster Art 150 – London Underground’s Greatest Designs, will showcase 150 of the greatest Underground posters ever produced. Supported by Siemens, and forming part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the London Underground, the exhibition will feature posters by many famous artists including Edward McKnight Kauffer and Paul Nash, and designs from each decade over the last 100 years.

Poster Art 150 – London Underground’s Greatest Designs is at the London Transport Museum until October 27.

Take a look at this beautiful identity for industrial designers Studio Hansen by the super talented Norwegian studio Heydays. Their clean, crisp design is just stunningly triumphant. This project is a welcome addition to their already sterling portfolio.

Take a look at some of their other inspiring work on the link below.

jail

I’m sure by now you may have seen our posts on twitter or facebook about our drama earlier this week. On Monday night our office was broken into by some toe-rag who managed to swipe our lovely array of machinery. Five mac’s in total were taken along with our server and various other bits. It was a shock for all our colleagues at first and left us all feeling rather violated. But we won’t let this get us down. We won’t be beaten.

On the plus side, it proved that our disaster recovery programme kicked in and all data was backed up off site and 100% secure. We would like to think that we have offered our usual levels of service in trying times.

We are getting back on track with the hardware (macs) and would like to thank Steve at Hardsoft of Shoreditch for his help and speedy service for getting us up and running. We have learned a hard lesson and from now on we will be using portable machines that will not be left overnight on the premises.

Finally we would like to thank our friends, family and clients for their support and good wishes over the past few days.

The Slate Team.
