Eenymeeny Kids Goes Live!

Our latest website for a shop based in North London has been declared live!

A very fun project that gave us a lot of creative licence with the layout and appearance of the pages. To reflect the shops character and interior we came up with a vintage childhood feel using banners and bunting and stamped textures. The whole site was built on the Magento platform which enabled a very comprehensive shop function and intuitive content management system.

Eenymeeny strive for a sustainable future. They stock products from ethically minded companies and small local producers and they encourage a swapping system whereby parents swap their used or unused precious and pricey childrens clothes (0-6 years) for eenymeeny vouchers to use in store.

A Website Update for Hunkydory

Recently we were given the task of giving an already well structured website a facelift.

The brand was already in place and the idea was there but we came in to bring the site up to date, give a fresh feel and create a CMS. We used the latest Jquery techniques to enhance the animation and step away from any Flash on the site. This made the site instantly ipad and iphone friendly with slick movement on each page. The fun part involved incorporating the circles from the Hunkdory brand into illustrations that represented the individual case studies throughout the site.

A very vibrant site! – Take a look here.

Posh Nosh International

We are delighted to announce the latest edition of Posh Nosh!

This year we have designed a brand new site to accompany their offer with Besserat champagne. Over the next 16 weeks up to the end of February 2012, they are running a Posh Nosh dining offer with The Independent, involving 50 premium London restaurants. In conjunction with this they needed a website that would break these restaurants up in to individual pages with clear concise text, displaying a review of the restaurant, the menu and champagne on offer as well some slick imagery of the restaurant food and chef.

We feel that we captured the tone of the audience well and made the most of the space we had on offer. The most difficult part was to ignore the rumbling of our stomach’s everytime we were uploading the food shots to the site!

A very fun project. Have a look at the site here.

Limetree Publishing Website

Limetree Publishing

We recently went live with a new website for the independent medical publishers, Limetree Publishing. On the design side of the project it proved a great challenge for us, as there was a lot of content to fit into the site. It was important to break this down into bite-size chunks and make this as user friendly as possible. The toned colours helped take on the companies brand and establish their identity onto their site. On the development side the publication area needed a lot of thought as we built a complex filtering system using the drupal platform that catered to every users needs. A thoroughly enjoyable project with a lovely team.

A busy week at Slate HQ

Firstly we must apologize for the lack of action on our blog of late. We have been rather busy at Slate HQ and we always like to dedicate our time to our clients rather than keeping our blog in tow. So with out further a-do (cue drum roll and trumpets) here are the websites we have been dedicating our time to…

Global Partners & Associates

A new shiny website for a company who works in numerous countries across the world to promote democratic politics, effective governance and human rights. Our task was to break up the heavy amounts of text from the previous site in to manageable bite-size pieces. As well as bringing a modern touch.

Carne Contracts Ltd

A completely new site accompanied with full company branding. The site had to be elegant and clean with strong bold imagery to reflect the brilliant work that Carne do. The identity needed to give off a sense of professional and experinced solidity as well as being instantly recognisable.

Catherine Pellegrino and Associates

Catherine Pellegrino and Associates Literary Agency represents children’s writers of quality fiction from early years through to young adults. The key part of this design was the bookshelf that shows of the authors books. A fun design that represents the authors personalities yet still keeping an air of professionalism.

Stonewall launch 2012 ‘Gay By Degree’ Uni Guide

Stonewall have launched the 2012 edition of Gay By Degree – a guide profiling the UK’s 150 universities discovering how gay-friendly they are. We designed and developed the original guide around this time last year, and have continued to work closely with Stonewall this year to update the site adding extra functionality, which we are very proud of. The new guide is supported by Google who recently ran a fantastic ad campaign about one man who used the web to create the ‘It Gets Better project’ – a movement that has generated thousands of uplifting videos that give hope to teens. It went like so…

The guide will offer students applying for university this year all the information they need to decide how gay-friendly each UK university really is and what they have to offer them. This year the guide also includes a new ‘career spotlight’ section, which features profiles of 12 recent LGB graduates each working in different sectors.

Chris Dye, Stonewall’s Education Officer, said: ‘Gay By Degree means lesbian, gay and bisexual students can compare how gay-friendly their university choices are and what each will offer to help them achieve their ambitions and fulfil their life aspirations. With universities increasing their maximum fees for 2012 prospective students want to ensure that they’re getting the best value for money from a university that will treat them with respect.’

There is a great article featured in the Guardian about the 2012 ‘Gay By Degree’ Guide here

Keep up the great work Stonewall!

Typography Tuesday #7

This week in Typography Tuesday, we’re taking the opportunity to share with you a mixture of our favourite websites that use @fontface. For those unfamiliar with @fontface it’s basically a css rule which allows you to download a particular font from your server to render a webpage if the user hasn’t got that font installed. This means that web designers no longer have to adhere to a particular set of “web safe” fonts and can be way more creative when it comes to design. Here are some our favourites…

Macaroni Bros

Yebo Creative

HTML5 Lab

Fixel
